{Moss Legacy} Chapter 9 | Brydie
I, honestly, should have seen it coming.
Setting up for my mysterious afternoon pottery lesson was kind of fun. I prepared some tea, went over the notes I had taken since starting this endevour and straightened the bathroom.
I had asked Jace about who it might be. “I think they’re twin sisters?” She replied, “Dina and Nina Caliente. I know the names and have seen them around but we definitely don’t move in the same circles.”
Shrugging, I went back to preparation.
As the afternoon approached, the gentle flutterings of nervous butterflies started bumping around my stomach.
It began to rain, softly at first, a gentle tap, tap, tap on my roof. Just as it started to get harder a voice said “Hey.”
Just one single word. I stiffened, my heart began to pound in my ears, drowning out the rain. No, no, no, I thought, this can’t be. But, as I turned around, there he was— all brown eyes, chiseled jaw and attractive smirk.
“Don.” I replied flatly, barely inclining my head to acknowledge his hello. “I have a pottery session booked, so if you could…”
He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, “About that. I got Nina to make the appointment for me while I was at work. I guess she didn’t say who it was for?”
Understanding dawned as I stood there in horror.
I started taking some deep breaths, drawing the clean smells of earth, rain and herbs deep into my lungs. Closing my eyes I held it for the count of three before exhaling. “Right…” I muttered, moving towards my clay to get this over with.
“Brydie,” Don said quietly, his deep voice pulling at my heart, “I didn’t mean to upset you, I kind of hoped you’d join me for a drink?”
Looking at everything I’d prepared I felt deflated. “But, I think now that I’m keen to continue the pottery class if you’ll allow it?”
And, so that is what we did. I mentored and he actually listened, actively. Followed my instructions. Made funny little quips that made me heart jump. It may just have been the best evening.
Until next time,
